Hedge Fund Fashion

An article about the fashion trends in Milan: apparently, its all about the hedge funds.

What interests me the most are people’s and our culture’s perception of hedge funds and those who operate them. I think some good adjectives that apply are “secretive,” “rich,” and “powerful.” The “rich” part is apparently reflected in the Italian fashion show.

As for that “animating spirit” reflected in the fashion, the article says:

Or perhaps to be more accurate, the sense of decadence that comes from the enormous returns those investment pools have reaped in recent years. Designer after designer showcased clothes that, while probably not to the taste (or body type) of the average hedge fund baron, were inspired by his riches.

The intersection of hedge funds and popular culture has been growing for some time — from television shows to movies to pretty much everything else. “Hedge Funds for Dummies” now graces bookshelves, and characters on soap operas are comparing love to high finance. So, it seems, fashion is only the latest to board the hedge fund train.

People seem to be once again fascinated by the financial movers and shakers what with all the hedge funds and private equity companies making their big public debuts on the stock exchanges. There’s even a sequel to Wall Street in the works, entitled Money Never Sleeps.
